Huntress Mother
Part of a series of artworks Titled:
The Archetypal Mothers - a Reclamation of the Self.
This series is an exploration of the many layers within motherhood, the sacrifices and the blessings. A testament to divine femininity, identity and the self that is lost and found.
The Huntress Mother is a painting of a gorgeous woman, stood beside a male lion and a cub. She is wearing tribal attire for a female huntress. Her eyes are fixated on her hunt, she is focused and ready to catch her prey. Her legs are toned, her body is athletic and majestic in her glory. She is tall, strong and feminine all at once. Her hair is styled in tight locks which are bunched in two sections at the top. Her hair is painted to show depth and definition through various finishes of black. She has a pretty face, but this is not to be mistaken for lack of ferocity when it comes to feeding her young. Much like the Serengeti lioness in human form, she may not be as strong as the male lion, or as feared but she is more skilled and capable than he is. Her young cub, who is crowned with a gold leaf halo, is watching her, awaiting his next meal, ignoring his father completely, as he knows he is merely ornamental in this scene. His physical presence in parallel with his emotional and mental absence is a story told through the blindfold he wears. He may be strong, but he is blind to the struggles around raising the young, sacrifices that need to be made: hunting for food, to provide for the young you share. Sadly this is the case many women find themselves in, the father of their children may feel like having children is “manly” but they know nothing of what it takes to provide and feed the child.
