Toxic Narc mother
Part of a series of artworks Titled:
The Archetypal Mothers - a Reclamation of the Self.
This series is an exploration of the many layers within motherhood, the sacrifices and the blessings. A testament to divine femininity, identity and the self that is lost and found.
The Toxic Narcissist Mother is meant to evoke reflection. She is a more maleficent, malignant side of motherhood. She holds her abused, injured daughter by a string, maintaining full control over her. In her other hand, she holds a red apple, with an embellished snake climbing out of it. Is this apple the apple of Eve? Or is she closer to the evil witch in Snow White who fed poisoned apples in order to sedate and violate young Snow White? Is the mother the one to birth and nurture, or mistreat. Is she full of love or malice? This artwork is an exploration of the darker and more sinister side of motherhood that many will often deny or ignore, cover up or wish never happened. The Toxic Narcissist mother stands strong, menacing and like a villain from a comic book, while her features are pretty and she is well dressed, there is something more terrifying beneath the make up and jewellery. A side to this child’s life others don’t see beneath the facade, the surface of outer beauty.
